Keeping It Together While Working From Home
Research on remote work has found plenty of benefits, but it has also identified some of the things I've experienced myself—including isolation and blurred boundaries between work and personal life.
We're a husband-and-wife towing business living and working on a little piece of land in Virginia. For years, our work and life have run together—building businesses, raising a family, working from home and on the road, starting over after setbacks, and learning how to work together without forgetting why we were working so hard in the first place.
Behind much of that story is Durrett Recovery, the towing and auto transport business we've built together. But somewhere along the way, we realized we were building more than a business.
We were building a life.
That's what Axles & Acres is about—the work, the road, the acres we come home to, our faith in the middle of it, and the things we've learned that might help someone else.
🚚 Build the work.
🌾 Live the life.
☀️ Notice the little lights along the way.
Real work. Real roads. Lessons learned along the way. Towing, auto transport, small business, equipment, guides, reviews, and lessons from years of building and working together.
Real life on a little piece of land—one ordinary day at a time. Home, land, marriage, family, projects, country life, and learning to enjoy some of what we've worked so hard to build.
Little lights found along the way. Personal stories, faith, Scripture, books, recommendations, and lessons I've picked up through business, marriage, difficult seasons, getting older, and ordinary life.
Some of the little lights that helped me find my way were left by people who probably never knew I needed them. Maybe that's why I want to leave a few for somebody else.
Things we've used, learned from, created, and found helpful along the way. Guides, towing equipment, reviews, books, business tools, acreage finds, and other resources that have earned a place in our work or everyday life.
If it's here, there's a reason.
If we write about it, we've lived some part of it. If we recommend it, there's a reason. And if we share a lesson, it's because life taught us something worth passing along.
We're still building, still learning, still choosing each other, and still figuring out how to enjoy the life we've worked so hard to build. Whether you're building something of your own, starting over, navigating a new season, or simply trying to figure out the next right step—
We hope something from our life helps you with yours.
You don't have to have the whole road figured out. Sometimes you just need enough light for the next step.
Keep going. 🌾
One acre. One mile. One ordinary day at a time.
