Reliable Towing & Auto Transport Across Virginia.
About Durrett Recovery
More Than a Tow. More Than a Business.
If you ask most people what we do, they'll probably tell you we own a towing and auto transport company.
And they're right.
But that's only part of the story.
For years, we've been building Durrett Recovery, a family-owned towing and auto transport business serving Virginia.
We've moved thousands of vehicles.
Worked long days.
Answered early morning phone calls.
Solved unexpected problems.
Learned lessons we never expected.
And somewhere along the way...
We realized we weren't just building a business.
We were building a life.
Wayne has spent years doing what he loves.
Helping people.
Moving vehicles safely.
Showing up when someone needs him.
It's work that requires responsibility, patience, and a willingness to keep going when the day doesn't go as planned.
I spent more than twenty years in real estate before joining Wayne in the business.
At first, I thought I was simply "helping in the office."
Answering phones.
Keeping records.
Scheduling loads.
Paying bills.
Trying to keep everything organized.
It took me years to realize something.
I wasn't just helping run the business.
I was helping protect its heartbeat.
Together...
We've learned that building a successful business isn't just about trucks.
Or equipment.
Or moving more vehicles.
It's about building something that lasts.
Something you can be proud of.
Something that supports the life you're trying to build—not the other way around.
That's why Axles & Acres was born.
After years on the road, we realized the lessons we were learning weren't only about towing.
They were about marriage.
Faith.
Purpose.
Simple living.
Building a business.
Protecting a family.
And learning how not to lose ourselves while trying to build something meaningful.
Today, Axles & Acres is where we take those lessons and turn them into stories, guides, tools, and resources that help other people build a business they enjoy, a life they don't want to escape from, and the peace to enjoy both.
Whether we're transporting a vehicle...
Writing a guide...
Reviewing equipment...
Or sharing one of Brenda's quiet walks to the mailbox...
Everything comes from real life.
If we write about it...
We've lived it.
If we recommend it...
It's earned a place in our lives.
We're honored every time someone trusts us with their vehicle.
And we're equally grateful every time someone chooses to walk alongside us through Axles & Acres.
Thank you for being here.
We hope something we've learned helps make your own journey a little easier.
— Wayne & Brenda Durrett

If you'd like to know more about the lessons we've learned beyond the road, we'd love to welcome you to Axles & Acres, where we share stories, practical resources, and everyday encouragement from the road, the land, and the quiet moments in between.
Meet the People Behind Durrett Recovery
Behind every vehicle we transport is a team that genuinely cares about doing the job the right way.
We're a family-owned business built on responsibility, professionalism, and the belief that every customer deserves honest communication, careful handling, and dependable service.
Each person plays a different role—whether on the road or behind the scenes—but together we share the same commitment to treating every vehicle, every customer, and every opportunity with the care and respect we'd want ourselves.
Michael (Wayne) Durrett
Founder • Co-Owner • Director of Field Operations
Wayne is the owner of Durrett Recovery and remains actively involved in the day-to-day operations of the business. With over 20 years of experience in the towing and roadside industry, he brings a depth of knowledge that comes from years of hands-on work in all types of situations.
His background includes everything from extrications to AAA emergency roadside assistance, long before building his own transport business. He is fully licensed and takes pride in handling each vehicle with care, professionalism, and attention to detail.
Towing isn’t just something Wayne does—it’s something he’s grown up around and dedicated his life to. He is the hero behind the business and sets the standard for the work we do every day.
Brenda Durrett
Co-Owner & Director of Operations
Brenda is the co-owner of Durrett Recovery and manages the behind-the-scenes operations that keep the business running smoothly. After more than 20 years in real estate and business management, she brought her experience in organization, customer service, and systems into the towing and auto transport industry.
From scheduling loads and coordinating logistics to bookkeeping, compliance, marketing, and customer communication, Brenda helps oversee the many details that support the business every day. While she has also learned to drive and transport vehicles herself, her greatest contribution has been building the systems that allow Durrett Recovery to operate with consistency and care.
Brenda is also the creator of Axles & Acres, where she shares the lessons learned from building a family business, marriage, faith, and everyday life. Through practical guides, stories, and helpful resources, her hope is to encourage others as they build a business they enjoy, a life they don't want to escape from, and the peace to enjoy both.
Hi! My name is Bear.
I'm the tow dog here at Durrett Recovery and I love riding in the truck everyday and watching over the boss man! I get to see and smell different places and meet lots of people out on the road. I may appear scary sometimes when I'm in protect mode or hungry, but I'm really not. I have a lot of friends and thank you to everybody who helps feed my stomach with treats, lets me roam around to go to the bathroom and who is nice and helpful to my owner. Hope to see you out here sometime!
